The great Aussie homebrew is a part of our lives. It is known throughout the world that Australia can lay claim to the best home brewing concentrates hands down … so it has been a major concern for us for some time now that our great depth and variety of concentrates has been stolen from those abroad. Ok, I admit that was a little dramatic, but the truth is that in the last 4 years approximately 80% of our Aussie brands have gone; now being produced off shore! … And going on some comments from brewers who were long time patriots of these brands, they are just not the same.

Feeling a little like Dick Smith, we had the big group discussion and came to the only sensible conclusion … we must get behind our local brands and ensure the future of our great hobby and keep our dollar here in Australia.

Many of you would have already noticed the changes in the stores … some of the old dusty ranges are gone, and new exciting products are popping up in their place. Great Australian brands like Morgan’s, Cooper’s, Wetpaks and ESB have pride of place, while they are joined with new ranges like X-TRACT, Wal’s and Rapid Creek. The quality of our current range is unsurpassed, but we are constantly looking out for better quality, and more variety.

So next time you come in for a brew, read the label and see where it is made … remember, as Australians, we can make the best beer in the world!
